I wonder when the was the last time President Bush read Article II section II of the U.S. Constitution. If he had maybe he would see that he doesn’t have the authority to edit the rulings of the judiciary. It is just like he doesn’t have the line item veto, the President doesn’t have the authority to randomly scratch out certain aspects of a criminal’s sentencing. The President has the authority under Article II section II to, “grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.” I think that is pretty clear. The President either has to wholly reject the ruling of the court or wholly accept it. Bush on the other hand simply commuted the jail sentence today for “Scooter” Libby but left his $250,000 fine and 2 year probation in place. His reasoning? The President thinks that the 30 months in jail that Libby received for committing treason was a little too harsh. Is President Bush a lawyer? Did I not get that memo? I thought he was a 2.5 gpa History major from Yale University. Bush needs to leave legal rulings to the professionals. If he wants to save Libby from being some criminal’s girl Friday he needs to just pardon him reprieve him of his entire sentence.
Bush forgets what his job is…
