It is more than official now that Mitt Romney has dropped out of the Presidential race. From a standpoint of history, this year will rank up there. We will not only find ourselves electing for only the third time in American history a sitting United States Senator as President of the United States (Harding and Kennedy were the previous) but we will also see the destruction of the American republic.
While the Democratic ticket is still to be determined, the Republican ticket is pretty much set in stone with Senator John McCain looking to be named the nominee. Of the four remaining candidates (I discount Ron Paul who has a better chance of being elected Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party) only Mike Huckabee can be classified as a true conservative. Clinton, Obama and McCain are all moderate to liberally minded individuals. This election year is set to be a disastrous period in American history as three Anti-American candidates are set to vie for the greatest prize in American politics.
Our republic was founded in September of 1787 with the adoption of the United States Constitution. She has seen better days of late, specifically dating back to the 19th century. Since the dawn of the 20th century she has faced enemies both foreign and domestic.
Her first battle was against the Progressives such as Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson who wanted to dismantle what they saw as a dysfunctional government and turn it into a democracy. Our glorious republic then saw the rise of King Franklin I, our longest serving President at a record 4 terms. Then she suffered through the Johnson Years and “Great Society” only to be further destroyed by the Nixon scandal in the 1970′s. The Nixon scandal and the Carter Experiment lead to the Reagan Years. Reagan for all he promised our republic saw nothing except further plunge into disastrous democracy. In 1988 we elected George H.W. Bush who turned out to really be a liberal in sheeps clothes. We suffered through White Water, White Stain and of course the Clinton family without their scandals in the 90′s. Then on the horizon there stood a Knight ready to do battle with the invading democracy, but he turned out to be carrying the flag donned with an ass instead of an elephant. And here we are, in 2008 with only a few months off before we elect the next President of the United States.
When the race began there stood some who could battle back the encroaching enemy, but one by one they dropped out until today when Mitt Romney bowed out of the race. We now see ourselves on the verge of history, will we elect the first true war hero to the nations highest office since that golf playing son-of-a-gun over 50 years ago? Or will we elect our first female President? Maybe it will be the Black man’s turn to lead this diverse nation of ours. Whoever it is, one thing can be clear, our little experiment called the American republic will officially be over.
